Doha Denounces Assault on World Food Program Aid Mission in Sudan
The Qatari Foreign Ministry denounced the targeting of the humanitarian convoy and stressed the urgent need to protect aid workers operating in the region. The ministry also highlighted the importance of ensuring the continued delivery of assistance to those in need throughout the state.
Qatar reiterated its call for coordinated regional and global efforts to end Sudan’s conflict through peaceful means, reaffirming its support for the country’s unity, sovereignty, and stability.
The attack reportedly involved a drone strike carried out by Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which caused casualties and destroyed humanitarian supplies intended for displaced civilians. Of Sudan’s 18 states, the RSF controls all five states in the western Darfur region, except for parts of North Darfur under army control. The army retains authority over most areas in the remaining 13 states across the south, north, east, and center of the country, including the national capital, Khartoum.
The ongoing conflict between the army and RSF, which began in April 2023, has resulted in thousands of deaths and the displacement of millions of people.
