Qatar, Iran FMs Discuss Efforts to Decrease Regional Tensions
The two officials discussed de-escalation initiatives amid heightened regional pressures. Al Thani reaffirmed Qatar’s support for peaceful solutions aimed at strengthening regional security and stability. He emphasized the importance of joint diplomatic efforts with friendly and regional partners to prevent escalation and address differences through dialogue.
The call follows Al Thani’s recent meeting in Tehran with Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, where de-escalation measures were also discussed.
Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari noted that regional contacts are continuing to encourage a return to diplomatic channels and negotiations.
The discussions come as tensions between Iran and the US remain high, fueled by an American military buildup in the Persian Gulf and repeated threats of military action by President Donald Trump. Several countries, notably Türkiye, have recently offered to mediate between Tehran and Washington to ease the crisis.
