Trump denounces IDF assault on Hamas compound in Doha
According to reports, roughly 15 Israeli fighter jets launched at least ten missiles during Tuesday’s raid, resulting in the deaths of several Hamas members, among them the son of senior figure Khalil al-Hayya.
Hamas stated that its leadership remained unharmed, characterizing the strike as a failed assassination attempt targeting negotiators engaged in discussions over a possible agreement.
Posting on Truth Social on Tuesday, Trump wrote that Israel’s attack inside “a Sovereign Nation and close Ally of the United States” did not “advance Israel or America’s goals.” He added, “I view Qatar as a strong Ally and friend of the US, and feel very badly about the location of the attack,” highlighting that the strike was “a decision made by Prime Minister Netanyahu, it was not a decision made by me.”
Trump noted that once he was informed of the assault, he instructed US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to caution Qatari officials, though the warning arrived “too late to stop the attack.” While he acknowledged that removing Hamas was a “worthy goal,” he also expressed optimism that “this unfortunate incident could serve as an opportunity for PEACE.”
The president later spoke separately with Netanyahu—who, he said, voiced a desire for peace—and with Qatari leaders, whom Trump thanked for their cooperation and reassured that “such a thing will not happen again on their soil.”
